Does this caption puzzle you? Guess it should. It is as it seems rather unusual to see something that is against the tradition (yes, it’s actually a tradition) called Valentine’s Day. Although going back to the martyr St. Valentine who married people despite a prohibition called out by the emperor Claudius II. in 269 A.D. and was therefore decapitated, Valentine’s Day has been known to be largely promoted by flower and candy shops.
In my experience it’s a bigger deal in the US than in Europe, and personally I’m not a big fan of that day (give me flowers every day please, and you can keep the candy) and naturally so aren’t most people that aren’t in a relationship. But even if you are (and I am), taking a funny approach to Valentine’s Day by crafting something for the opposite is hilarious to me. If you don’t like someone, just give this to them as a gift, or wear it for offending people that are rude to you. (Note: I do believe in swear words and telling someone in the face if he was nasty to you that he can f*** himself. Sorry for not being sorry about that).
- Letter beads
- Faceted glass beads (in a colour of your choice)
- Eye pins
- Small jump rings
- Normal jump ring
- Jewellery clasp
- Gold chain or pearl cotton
- Jewellery pliers
It’s rather simple: First lay out ready your swear words (I looked up a bunch if you need inspiration) and decide on one. Thread the beads on the eye pin and close it by making another eye with your jewellery pliers. Bend it a little.
Next, thread a single faceted glass bead on another eye pin and close it the same way. Repeat the process so you have two in the end.
Connect your word to the threaded beads on each side.
With the small jump rings, attach the gold chain to one threaded bead, then measure the optimal length for your bracelet and sever the chain there. Sever the piece of chain in the middle and attach the other piece to the other side of your center piece.
Apply a normal jump ring on one and a jewellery clasp on the other side. If you want to do it with pearl cotton, just knot the pieces to the jump rings!
The funny thing with these bracelets is the perplexing effect: People think you’re wearing a cheesy friendship bracelet or children’s bracelet until they see what’s written on it. Of course you can do this with every word you like! But I find this rather comical. If you don’t, I don’t care 🙂
