Style Wardrobe

Open Back Tee

The thing I like about the weather being all nice and sunny (sometimes) and the temperatures rising is that it really inspires me for more summery DIY projects. I already have ten or more ideas in my head revolving around beauty essentials for hot days, or colourful accessories for your summer vacation, or at least a thousand recipes. It really does help that my mind is already placed in September, drinking luscious cocktails on Crete’s wonderful beaches and exploring the coasts/cities/nature.

Be sure that I will be telling you about everything I have seen, tasted and loved about this vacation (definitely need to do some research beforehand)! So guess I need to prepare my summer wardrobe already, don’t I? Let’s start with something simple:

You need:

  • A tee in a colour of your choice
  • Leather strap
  • Tailor’s chalk
  • Scissors
  • Long ruler
  • Needle and thread
  • Sewing machine
  • Jewellery pliers

back-1 Start by marking the middle of the back-neckline of your shirt with the ruler and tailor’s chalk. Place the ruler on this mark and draw a line straight towards the hem of your shirt in the length of 35cm. From this point draw a diagonal to each point where back-neckline and sleeves meet (use the picture as help).

back-2In a distance of about 1cm from the drawn line, carefully cut out the resulting triangle. Turn down the fabric at the marked line and secure with pins.

back-3Sew the hem, with a sewing machine or by hand (if you don’t have one).

back-4Now prepare the leather strap: Cut it in a size of your choice, then with a strong needle and by help of your jewellery pliers, make four holes in each end of the strap. That way the sewing will be much easier! I didn’t have any leather needles for my sewing machine at hand, so I had to use my needle and thread for this. Place the strap in the place you want (under the fabric) and attach it to the shirt on both sides of the open part. That’s it!

19 18Although I am still not 100% sure how to wear this I really like the outcome! The dark brown leather strap fits very well to the dark blue fabric, and it’s a wonderful way to show your back in the summer. Maybe I’ll try wearing it a bikini top, or get one of those bras with a nice fastener at the back. Do you have any tips? Hope you are inspired!

Great DIY! Mmm, you can wear this beauty with the adhesible bra cups, so that there is no sign of a bra on the back of your shirt, and doesn’t take away from the look, y’know?

I have two BareNecessities and they’ve lasted for quite a while and they’re great.
