DIY | Delicate Feather Votive

Don’t you think that a votive is an essential to make every room in your home comfortable? Since January is finally over, it’s slowly starting to get brighter outside whenever I get up in the morning. Still, the dark periods are still waaay too long for my taste, and feel whenever I light those candles the darkness doesn’t seem so pressing. Do you know what I mean? So I usually try to scatter around as many votives as possible to make it cosy and warm. And I just can never have enough of them! I got two diamond-shaped ones two years ago, and then this year another one in a white opaque shade. Then I crafted a rustic wooden votive almost four years ago when I started this blog project (that’s ages!). Oh, and don’t forget about my Gold and Marble Votives! So here’s a new addition for the team!

The tutorial

You need

  • 2 tea-light holders or small glasses
  • Feathers
  • Crafting glue
  • Gold paint
  • Paintbrush

Start by applying crafting glue to the tea-light holders. You might think of using a hot glue gun, but the glue will come off when the votive gets warm. Spread the glue with the paintbrush.

Add a feather, and don’t worry if the ends of the quill are reaching over the bottom of the votive. We’ll take care of it later. Continue applying feathers and spreading glue whenever necessary. Let everything dry. Since I had a few beautifully coloured feathers left from a project, so I applied them as embellishment.

Remove the ends of the quills with a pair of sharp scissors. Now you can leave the votive as it is if you like, but I decided to embellish it a bit further. At the bottom of the votive, apply some gold paint and let it sort of fade upwards. That’s it!

Don’t they look super elegant and expensive? And they’re so easy! They work best when paired with other kinds of votives all assembled on a beautiful plate, maybe with some flowers. I actually got the idea for them when visiting a decoration store in one of my favourite places. Which reminds me to keep my eyes open whenever I go shopping, because there is so much inspiration to find! Hope I could inspire you!
