The show must go on! And how better to do that than with a collar necklace DIY? I actually wanted to do a collar necklace since I saw one on Pinterest and thought that it would be beyond easy to reconstruct with ear studs and some gold chain. Simple, right? As you know, I love crafting jewellery. And if you want proof for that, just check out my jewellery DIY section!
However, I have noticed over the last months that my taste in jewellery seems to change. Although I still love a good statement necklace when I feel like it, I am currently drawn to simpler, more delicate jewellery (like this one). This collar necklace seems to be a merging of those two extremes. Because it sets a clear and simple statement without being too much. But that’s just my opinion!
- 2 pure quartz sticks
- 2 ear stud blanks with plugs
- Golden chain with large links
- Golden chain with small links
- 2 small jump rings
- 2 medium jump rings
- Super glue
- Jewellery pliers
First things first! Decide which one of the chains you want to be longer, i.e. the top or bottom part of the necklace. Since I wanted the smaller chain at the bottom, I cut a longer piece. Maybe use a blouse for measuring the right length.
In a next step, connect the two chain pieces on one side by help of a small and a medium jump ring. I used a small jump ring to connect the delicate chain to the medium jump ring because it wouldn’t fit otherwise. Depending on the link size of your chain you might only need one jump ring for each side. Then, repeat this process and connect the chains on the other side.
Subsequently, place a drop on one of the ear stud blanks and attach it to the top of one of the pure quartz sticks. Repeat this with the other blank and the other stick. Let dry.
Now, if you want to wear everything as a collar necklace, thread the jump ring that connects the two chains on the ear stud. Next, carefully pierce the fabric of your collar and close the ear stud on the back with the plug. Repeat with the other side and be fabulous!
As an alternative you can simple wear the pure quartz sticks as statement earrings. To do so, just leave out the necklace part and close the studs with the plugs.
I may go out on a limb here, but I thinks this collar necklace is one of the simplest and coolest pieces of jewellery I have crafted. Plus, you can wear it two ways, so it’s basically two pieces of jewellery in one! As I am fascinated by the pure quartz and I still have some of them left, I am really thinking about crafting some more jewellery with it. In fact, I did already craft with a pure quartz stick, but I’m still open to new ideas. What do you think?
